A French Marine Nationale Bagad de Lann-Bihoué bagpipe band during practice at Massawa, Ethiopia. Ethiopia celebrated the graduation of its naval cadets during a four-day international naval pageant called "Imperial Ethiopian Navy Days". Maritime powers and other nations, at the invitation of the world’s senior head of state, His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, send representatives to the port city of Massawa to attend the affair. In 1973 year, countries represented were: the United States, Great Britain, France, the Soviet Union, Iran, India, Sudan, The Netherlands, West Germany, Norway, and Italy. The first eight nations were represented by naval commands, among them were the French frigate Protet (F748), the Soviet destroyer Skrytnyy (447), and the Indian light cruiser Mysore (C60), visible at left.
