Photo 24.1 Soilscape at Addi Selam, just west of Hagere Selam, with profiles showing from up to down a clear red (Luvisol)—black (Vertisol) soil sequence (catena). The Vertisol has good water holding capacity, which allows lush vegetation, even in the dry season.
