The ceremony called "mask'ali" is a name borrowed from the Amharic language and is part of the annual ceremonies on the Christian calendar. It is a celebration of the community. In spite of adherence to some Christian tradtions, almost everyone in the community is also a believer in the powers of the spirit medium.
