    I love this vignette so much that I uploaded it in spite of having processed it so heavily. I took the photo in very low ambient light at a high ISO value, which meant the image contained a lot of noise.

    This painting of St. Abbo hangs directly above the one shown in the preceding photographs. The painting has all the necessary elements, right down to the lions, leopards, and fluttering little bird, but it seems more austere than the example below.

    If I need proof that looking isn't the same as seeing, all I need to do is think back on my visit to the Church of Bet Mercurios in Lalibela, Ethiopia. Now that I've looked at the photos from that visit, I realize the church houses three paintings of St. Abbo.
