What this record describes
An illuminated Book of the Gospels from the Lake Tana region of Ethiopia, dated late 14th to early 15th century, of parchment bound in acacia wood with tempera and ink (41.9 x 28.6 x 10.2 cm). The Met attributes it to a Northern Highlands artist and catalogues miniatures including the Annunciation, Nativity, Adoration of the Magi, Baptism, Crucifixion, and Entombment, with Evangelist portraits. Acquired through the Rogers Fund, 1998 (1998.66).
