What this record describes
Painting on fol. 35r of Princeton University Library, Princeton Ethiopic Manuscripts, Princeton, NJ, 57 (PEM (Princeton) 57), dated 18th century. The scene is recorded (with qualification) by the Princeton Ethiopian, Eritrean, and Egyptian Miracles of Mary project (PEMM) as "2. The monk Yǝsḥaq falling on the ground during the apparition of Mary; 3. The icon of St Mary taking Yǝsḥaq by the hand and raising him". PEMM links it to the story "The monk, Yǝsḥaq, of Alexandria who prayed for seven years that Saint Mary would appear to him during the time of Patriarch Gabriel II of Alexandria (d. 1145)".
