What this record describes
Painting on fol. 149v of Princeton University Library, Princeton Ethiopic Manuscripts, Princeton, NJ, 57 (PEM (Princeton) 57), dated 18th century. The scene is recorded (with qualification) by the Princeton Ethiopian, Eritrean, and Egyptian Miracles of Mary project (PEMM) as "2. The woman holding her new-born child protected by St Mary from the water; 1. A church amongst the waves from which the people are fleeing". PEMM links it to the story "The pregnant woman who was caught by the tide while going to the church of Saint Michael (Mont Saint Michel) and gave birth".
