Yǝḥa is the center of the kingdom of DM`T, a civilization that existed a thousand years before the great Aksumite Empire.
Yǝḥa preserves the Great Temple, a monumental structure built from carefully dressed limestone blocks without mortar, together with the Grat Bäʿal Gǝbri complex and rock-cut tombs. Inscriptions and material finds connect the site to cultural exchange across the Red Sea.
Its architecture and finds belong to the early first millennium BCE. They provide crucial evidence for political, religious and craft organisation in the northern Horn before Aksum became the dominant centre.
